Johnson, an expert on聽the聽politics of money and identity聽particularly in post-communist聽Europe,聽was聽recognized聽for聽her 鈥減athbreaking鈥� scholarship in advancing our understanding of the political economy of post-communist transformation and reshaping debates in international political economy.聽

Her two landmark books 鈥� A Fistful of Rubles and Priests of Prosperity 鈥� are widely recognized as foundational texts on the evolution of banking and central banking in Russia and post-Soviet states. These studies combine deep empirical research with theoretical sophistication, illuminating how international norms, professional networks, and domestic politics have interacted to shape financial governance across the region. Her pioneering analyses of central bank independence, currency politics, and financial nationalism have provided frameworks that will guide scholars for years to come. Beyond her scholarly achievements, Dr. Johnson has provided exceptional service to our field. She has twice served as lead editor of the Review of International Political Economy, including stepping in during a period of crisis to stabilize and guide the journal.
