Before the law was changed for England and Wales in 2014\, the Law Commiss ion worked with researchers to conduct a large survey of public attitudes. Despite extensive social change and the acceptance of many different form s of being 'family'\, the nuclear family reigns supreme in attitudes towar ds inheritance. The Scottish government has now proposed making significan t changes.
