 y used model of sustainability recognises the\nimportance of social equity
 \, alongside environmental performance\nand techno-economic efficiency. Wh
 ile tools are established to\nanalyse the environmental performance of sup
 ply chains\, assessment\nof supply chain equity by approaches such as Soci
 al Life Cycle\nAssessment is not yet developed and accepted. This seminar 
 will\nexplore some of the ethical issues raised by the question of supply
 \nchain equity\, with some specific examples of current interest. The\nana
 lysis leads to a model of sustainable consumption in developed\neconomies 
 based on re-interpretation of 'quality' and 'luxury'.\nBiography:\nProfess
 or Roland Clift CBE\, FREng\, MA(Cantab.)\, PhD(³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ):\nEmeritus Profess
 or of Environmental Technology and founding\nDirector of the Centre for En
 vironmental Strategy at the University\nof Surrey\; previously Head of the
  Department of Chemical and\nProcess Engineering at the University of Surr
 ey\; Visiting Professor\nin Environmental System Analysis at Chalmers Univ
 ersity\, Göteborg \,\nSweden\; Adjunct Professor in Chemical and Biologica
 l Engineering at\nthe University of British Columbia\, Vancouver\, Canada.
  He is\ncurrently Executive Director of the International Society for\nInd
 ustrial Ecology and a member of Rolls-Royce' Environmental\nAdvisory Board
 .\nFrom 1996 to 2005\, Roland was a member of the Royal Commission\non Env
 ironmental Pollution (RCEP). He is a past member of the UK\nEco-labelling 
 Board\, of the Science Advisory Council of the\nDepartment\, Food and Rura
 l affairs (Defra)\, of the Royal\nSociety/Royal Academy Working Group on n
 anotechnology and of the\nWorking Group which drafted and updated the BSI/
 Defra/Carbon Trust\nstandard on carbon labelling\, PAS 2050. In 2004-5\, h
 e acted as\nExpert Adviser to a House of Lords Select Committee enquiry in
 to\nenergy efficiency. His research is concerned with system approaches\nt
 o environmental management and industrial ecology\, including life\ncycle
