At the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), spring is a time to celebrate SPOT graduates and give kudos to those who have distinguished themselves. SPOT offers students awards, prizes, and fellowships at various points of their studies in the eight programs to honour academic excellence and exceptional achievements. As her clinical expertise expanded, she took on roles with more leadership responsibilities while pursuing and completing a Master of Science in Organizational Development, at Universit茅 Laval.

The event was organized to provide an update on the accomplishments and new directions in research into arthrogryposis 鈥� a rare congenital joint disorder 鈥� conducted by a Montreal group of experts.

Inventory of Technologies to Support Aging in Place

In order to help healthcare professionals, sift through the labyrinth market of new and exciting digital technologies available to assist older adults age in their preferred environment, researchers at the Centre de recherche Institut Universitaire de Geriatrie de Montreal (CRIUGM) developed a tool to help select appropriate digital aids and technologies for older adults and their caregivers.

The Gloria Gilbert Chronic Pain Award recognizes a student who has conducted an outstanding project related to pain and interdisciplinary chronic pain management and in recognition of the importance of leadership and innovation in the treatment of those with chronic pain. In 2023, three learners received this award for their projects completed in the elective course of the online Graduate Certificate in Chronic Pain Management Program.

Having one's autonomy to drive within the community plays an important role in the overall health, well-being and participation of drivers and passengers alike. However, an illness, accident, trauma or even the natural aging process can all significantly impact driving ability and accessibility to and within the vehicle. Occupational therapists (OTs) who work in the field of driving rehabilitation are responsible for a range of interventions that focus on maintaining a person鈥檚 ability to continue to drive a vehicle in these situations.
