What to expect

In the company of Canadian university study leaders, naturalists, and expedition staff, experience the thrill of early-season exploration in the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Prepare to be astonished by the Falkland Islands鈥 wild and rugged landscapes, the fantastic variety
of bird species, and the chance to see up to five of the world鈥檚 penguin species including the king
penguin.

South Georgia is one of the most dramatic and least visited places on earth. We鈥檒l wade ashore on
vast beaches to observe the largest colony of king penguins in the world and
gargantuan elephant seals, and retrace the last leg of Ernest Shackleton鈥檚 epic journey. For sheer wildlife
extravagance, there鈥檚 no place like the 鈥淪erengeti of the Southern Ocean.鈥

Arriving at the Antarctic Peninsula itself, we鈥檒l find springtime conditions of pristine and gleaming
White, with massive glaciers, icebergs and imposing mountains. We鈥檒l visit the
Peninsula鈥檚 highlight locations, home to the greatest collection of Antarctic wildlife and some of the
most dramatic scenery in the world.

Our vessel is the M/V Magellan Discoverer, a custom-built ship designed for maximum comfort
while maintaining an expeditionary feel. We are hosting a maximum of only 88 participants plus our
study team aboard. We鈥檒l enjoy excellent access to landing sites and Zodiac explorations in very small groups with options for extensive walking and sea kayaking as well.
