Annual Reports

The Department of Biomedical Engineering鈥檚 Annual Report highlights the achievements and continued growth of a community grounded in interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and a strong culture of research and training. Through connections across the , affiliated institutes, clinical settings, and industry, the department expands its impact and fosters new opportunities for discovery and translation. The reports showcase accomplishments in research, teaching, and community engagement, as well as our sister听, and our Master鈥檚 program in Translational Biomedical Engineering. Together, these efforts advance the field and strengthen the department鈥檚 role in shaping the future of biomedical engineering.

In 2025, the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) was supported by a diverse and interdisciplinary community of 14 core faculty members, 34 associate and adjunct members, and 6 professional members.

The department continued to foster the next generation of biomedical engineers through the mentorship and training of 199 research trainees, including undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff, as well as 24 students registered in the non-thesis Master鈥檚 program in Translational Biomedical Engineering, as of Fall 2025. In addition, 34 students supervised by BME core faculty members graduated throughout the year.

Collectively, the department鈥檚 research community produced 130 peer-reviewed publications, secured approximately $11.8M in new research funding as Principal Investigators, and generated 3 patents.
