Better Policy for a Better World: Why good ideas aren't enough

How can we close the gap between the theory of public policy and the complex art of putting it into practice? While there鈥檚 certainly no shortage of problems in the world, there鈥檚 also no shortage of good policy ideas to solve them. But good ideas alone don鈥檛 seem to be enough. Those good ideas need to be implemented effectively in a difficult political, social, and economic context.

This conference听explored听the many reasons that policy making is difficult in the real world.

The final panel in the Policy Options election breakfast series considered the results of the general election and the likelihood that the new Parliament will produce a stable government. It explored what the makeup of the House of Commons says about interregional relationships and the ability of the government 鈥 of whatever colour or stripe 鈥 to govern in a way that is reflective of the federation as a whole.
