Hasheem Hakeem
Dr. Hasheem Hakeem is an Assistant Professor in the聽Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). His research advances critical approaches to French language learning and assessment, with a focus on multimodal strategies that promote critical thinking, sociopolitical awareness, and affective literacy. Current projects include developing assessment frameworks that move beyond traditional measures of proficiency; examining classroom practices鈥攕uch as participation鈥攕haped by teacher beliefs and ideologies; and reimagining the role of affect in language learning.聽His scholarship has appeared in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including聽Critical Inquiry in Language Studies,听Contemporary French Civilization, la聽Revue des sciences de l鈥櫭ヾucation, the聽International Journal of Canadian Studies, and the聽成人VR视频 Journal of Education, among others.
A former instructional professor at the University of Calgary and Northwestern University, and secondary school French immersion teacher, Dr. Hakeem has taught French in diverse educational contexts. He also worked as an assessment developer with the British Columbia Ministry of Education, helping design the Grade 12 French Immersion literacy assessment. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the聽, leading initiatives that challenge systems of oppression through scholarship, curriculum reform, and mutual aid.
